One cleanup is one CSV file processed end-to-end. Toggling auto-fixes on and off during the same session doesn't consume additional cleanups. That's all the same one. And a free cleanup is only spent on a completed one: if the AI mapping step fails, or the cleanup is interrupted (even by a closed tab), your cleanup is automatically restored.

CSVwise handles product CSVs up to 50,000 rows (per plan limits) and up to 200 columns, in files up to 25 MB. AI column mapping supports up to 120 columns per file; if your file has more, remove the columns you don't need and upload it again.

Yes. The cleanup itself (auto-fixes, problem detection, and the live preview) runs in your browser, and CSVwise does not retain your file afterward. The one exception is the AI column-mapping step, which runs after you click Suggest column mapping with AI and confirm: it sends your column headers and up to 5 sample rows to our AI provider (over zero-data-retention routing) to suggest a mapping. Full file contents are never uploaded. Details are on the Privacy page.

Yes. Billing is monthly through Shopify, and you can change plans or return to the Free plan from inside CSVwise at any time. The new plan applies right away, and billing runs to the end of the cycle you have already paid for, so you are not charged again.

CSVwise runs 40+ problem checks against Shopify's product CSV import rules, so it helps your file import clean on the first try in the great majority of cases. Edge cases requiring merchant judgment, such as intentional handle reuse or deliberate variant grouping, are surfaced for you to decide: fix at source, remove the row from the cleaned CSV, or proceed.

Today Pro and Studio have the same feature set and differ only on the row cap. Pro supports up to 5,000 rows per file at $19/month; Studio supports up to 50,000 rows per file at $49/month. Pick Studio if you have product CSVs larger than 5,000 rows.

Shopify's Product Category column only accepts values from its Standard Product Taxonomy (a breadcrumb like “Home & Garden > Decor”, or a taxonomy ID). Free-text categories like “Accessories” aren't valid there. Shopify's importer would silently drop them. So CSVwise maps free-text categories to Shopify's free-text Type field instead, and warns you when a value headed for Product Category wouldn't be accepted. You can always override the mapping before you download.

Shopify stores one weight per variant, in grams. CSVwise extracts the unit from values like “1.5 kg” and converts to the grams Shopify expects, records the display unit, and sums compound weights: “2 lb 7 oz” becomes 1106 g. Ambiguous or unsupported units (e.g. “stone”) are flagged for you rather than guessed.

CSVwise detects files that aren’t UTF-8 encoded, which is the usual cause of garbled characters (mojibake) after import. If you see this, re-export as UTF-8: in Excel, use “CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)”; in Numbers or Google Sheets, a standard CSV export is already UTF-8.

Errors are problems CSVwise can’t fix automatically, so they block the download until you fix them at the source or remove the affected rows from the cleaned CSV. Warnings never block your download: rows with warnings are still included in your cleaned file, corrected when a matching auto-fix is on and left as-is otherwise. Every issue is shown with its row number before you commit.
